Board of Directors
Term: 2008-2011
My wife, Nancy, and I grew up on the east coast, DE and PA, and moved west from there to OH and MI. We moved to Lake Somerset in May 1991 from Bloomfield Hills, MI after our 3 children had left home. I had been President of the N. Bloomfield Hills Association for 3 years.
We had been looking for waterfront property for several years and finally selected Lake Somerset because of the appearance of the community, the water quality, the rural environment and the proximity to work.
From 1997 to 2004 I served on the LSPOA Board as Secretary and Roads and Water Quality Chairman, and was elected President in October 2008. We have been involved with local organizations such as the Somerset Township Planning Commission and Elections, Region 2 Planning Commission, River Raisin Watershed Council, Ella Sharp Museum, and Woman's Club of Jackson -- Programs.
In 1997, I retired from Tenneco Automotive and accepted a position with Cerberus Capital Management to technically manage 3 plants in NE OH, where I commuted weekly until mid 2001 when I officially retired.

Term: 2008-2010 (appointed 4/18/08)
Despite having been born in Ohio, I went to school in Michigan.
I spent over 20 years in the plastics industry on the West Coast, and was a member of a homeowner's association in California for 6 years. We moved back to Michigan around 1999, to work in the family sand & gravel business. We have been owners at Lake Somerset ever since. I currently own a business in Concord.
I have regularly attended monthly association meetings, and have volunteered for many work parties. I have served on several committees for both LSPOA and Somerset Township, and helped integrate the reserves document into the budget process. I became Vice President of the Association in April to continue giving back to the community.
I was on the Restrictive Covenants committee and plan on continuing the process of revising and updating both of the 40 year old Restrictive Covenants and By-laws to bring them in line with current law.
I look forward to working with our Board and the many helpful volunteers that make our Lake community the special place that it is.

I was born in Windsor, Ontario, and was raised in Detroit. I joined the Army in 1964 and was on active duty for 5 1/2 years. I was in Military Intelligence and served in Korea, Vietnam, and Ethiopia. I then worked for Honeywell for 24 years, installing and repairing mainframe computers. I was also a small business owner in Hamtramck during the 1980s. I have been an adjunct instructor at Jackson Community College since 1998, teaching math, computers, and electronics.
I left Detroit in 1975. I rented a home on the lake in 1976 and bought a lot the same year. I started construction in 1977 and have lived here ever since. I work 9 hours a week at JCC, and consider myself retired.

We bought our home on Lake Somerset in 2003 as a place we could eventually retire to. After a year and a half, we found ourselves here more than at our other residence. Leaving here on Sundays after a great weekend was getting very difficult, so we made the decision to move here as permanent residents. (The old joke was, "How did you get your kids to move out? We didn't. We moved out on them.") Carol and I have two grown daughters, and I am currently busy helping my oldest and her husband build their new home.
I am enjoying working with Water Quality -- this is my second term, after having been re-elected last October (so I must be doing a pretty good job!). I look forward to working with the Board and the community to keep Lake Somerset a great place to live!

I am a new member of the Somerset community (since mid 2009), but am not new to boating. I love the water and have been a sailor for over 20 years. In Cleveland Ohio I owned a 27 ft. Erickson and was a member of Forest City Yacht Club. As an active member, I chaired several committees as well as held board positions in the Auxillary. This lake is now my permanent residence and I would like to take an active role in its continued viability.
Term: 2009-2012
My name is Mitch Wetzler and I've owned a house at 14251 Killybegs since 1999. I retired from Ford Motor Company in 2005 where I ran the Mustang, T-Bird, Windstar, and Lincoln Powertrain Programs. I'm an Electrical Engineer but also have Graduate degrees in Electrical, Computer Controls and an MBA in Finance.
Since retirement I spend the summers here on the lake. I live next door to Ms. Thelma Whitten and we have become good neighbors and friends and would continue the seamless process that has been developed by Carl Reuter and Thelma to maintain the security on our lake and to ensure that only those residents that belong to the association have access to our waters.
Term: 2009-2011 (appointed 10/4/09)
I have lived here with my wife Debra and children since October 2004. I have worked as a security guard for the lake for almost 3 years and I am currently working as one of the harvester operators.
Term: 2008-2011
My wife Helen and I moved to Lake Somerset in 1994. I was unable to assist in LSPOA activities until I retired in 1998. Since then I have served on the board in several areas; two years as Building Control Chairman, five years as Association President and now I am back on the board as Chairman of the Roads Committee.
Our roads are in need of serious repair, the County and the Township are both strapped for funds so I have proposed to the Board and the Township a joint effort to address this issue. I believe that a joint effort is the only way we will resolve this problem with the state of the economy as it is.
I will be relying on the members for needed immediate repairs as they occur on streets in your neighborhood.
Our goal as a Board is to have a Lake Community that we all can take a
great deal of pride in.
